Somatization

Somatization

Somatization is when psychological distress expresses itself through physical symptoms in the body. It's a real experience, not something imagined.

Details

Somatization is a phenomenon where emotional distress is expressed through physical symptoms such as headaches, stomachaches, chest pain, and fatigue. A key characteristic is that no clear medical cause is found during physical examinations.

It tends to occur more often in people who have difficulty recognizing or expressing their emotions. The physical symptoms are not 'fake' — they are genuinely felt pain and discomfort, but with a psychological origin.

Learning to listen to what your mind is telling you and finding healthy ways to express your emotions can make a real difference. Mindy is here to help you explore those feelings and work through them together.

💡 Real-Life Example

When under significant stress, you might experience stomachaches, headaches, or general body pain — yet medical tests come back with no findings. This is a common example of somatization.
