Understanding the Mind

Self-Efficacy

Self-Efficacy

It's the belief in your own ability to say 'I can do this.' It's a slightly different concept from self-esteem.

Details

Self-efficacy is a concept proposed by Bandura — it's your belief in yourself that you can successfully complete a specific task.

If self-esteem is 'I am a worthwhile person,' then self-efficacy is 'I can accomplish this.' Past experiences of success help build self-efficacy.

As you accumulate small wins, your self-efficacy grows stronger over time. Mindy often reminds us that the mindset of 'let's just give it a try!' is what matters most.

💡 Real-Life Example

'When given a difficult task and feeling like I can handle it' — that's high self-efficacy.
