REM Sleep

REM Sleep

REM sleep is the stage of sleep where rapid eye movements occur — it's when you dream and your brain organizes memories.

Details

REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep is a stage of sleep in which the eyes move rapidly and brain activity resembles that of being awake. Vivid dreams occur primarily during this stage.

REM sleep plays an important role in memory consolidation, emotional processing, and creative problem-solving. The muscles become temporarily paralyzed to prevent acting out dream content.

Insufficient REM sleep can lead to problems with emotional regulation, learning, and memory. Ensuring adequate total sleep time is the best way to protect your REM sleep.

I'm Mindy. If disrupted sleep is affecting your mood or daily life, it can be really helpful to talk it through.

💡 Real-Life Example

When you're in the middle of a vivid dream, you're in REM sleep. During this time, emotional processing and consolidation of what you've learned take place.
