Locus of Control

Locus of Control

Locus of control is the belief about whether outcomes in life come from your own efforts (internal) or from luck and outside circumstances (external).

Details

Locus of control refers to your belief about where the causes of events in your life come from.

An internal locus of control means believing 'if I put in the effort, the outcome will change,' while an external locus of control means believing 'luck or circumstances determine what happens.'

Having a stronger internal locus of control tends to lead to more proactive behavior. Mindy often encourages a mindset of 'let me focus on the parts I can actually change' — and that shift in perspective can make a real difference.

💡 Real-Life Example

Passing an exam and thinking 'I passed because I worked hard' (internal) versus 'I passed because I got lucky' (external) — that difference reflects your locus of control.
