Flow

Flow

Flow is the optimal experience of being completely absorbed in an activity, losing track of time entirely.

Details

Flow is a concept introduced by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, describing an optimal psychological state in which you become completely immersed in an activity.

Key features include a balance between challenge and skill, clear goals, immediate feedback, a sense of control, and distorted time perception.

In a flow state, self-consciousness disappears and action and awareness merge into one.

If a task is too easy, boredom sets in; if it is too difficult, anxiety arises — flow emerges in the sweet spot between the two.

Finding activities that bring you into flow and weaving them into your daily life can make a tremendous difference to your well-being. Mindy encourages you to explore what those activities might be for you.

💡 Real-Life Example

If you have ever been so absorbed in something you love that hours passed without you noticing, that is exactly what a flow state feels like.
