Emotional Abuse

Emotional Abuse

Emotional abuse is the ongoing act of harming another person's emotional well-being through criticism, humiliation, manipulation, and neglect.

Details

Emotional abuse involves no physical violence, but it repeatedly damages another person's self-esteem and emotional health. It includes criticism, ridicule, neglect, control, threats, gaslighting, and isolation. Because it leaves no visible marks, it can be difficult to recognize, yet it causes serious psychological wounds. Victims may experience lowered self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and a sense of helplessness.
