Trauma Response

Trauma Response

Trauma responses are the various psychological and physical reactions that appear after experiencing a traumatic event.

Details

A trauma response is a normal reaction to an overwhelming experience, and can appear in four forms: fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. Symptoms can include hyperarousal, flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, emotional numbness, and difficulty concentrating. These reactions are normal survival mechanisms. If symptoms persist over time, professional help is needed.

Mindy wants you to know: a trauma response is not a sign of weakness — it is evidence that you survived.

💡 Real-Life Example

After a trauma, being easily startled, having nightmares, feeling emotionally numb, or avoiding certain places are all examples of trauma responses.
