Therapeutic Alliance

Therapeutic Alliance

The relationship of trust and collaboration between a therapist and client. It is the single most important predictor of treatment outcomes.

Details

The therapeutic alliance (also called the working alliance) is made up of three components: the emotional bond between therapist and client, agreement on goals, and agreement on tasks.

Research consistently shows that the strongest predictor of therapy outcomes is not the specific technique used, but the quality of the therapeutic alliance. A good relationship makes for good therapy.

If you find yourself thinking, 'I feel like I can actually get better with this therapist,' that's a sign a strong therapeutic alliance has formed. — Mindy

💡 Real-Life Example
