Specific Phobia
Specific Phobia
An excessive and irrational fear of a specific object or situation.
Details
Specific Phobia involves an excessive fear of particular objects (animals, blood, heights, etc.) or situations (enclosed spaces, flying, etc.).
Even when a person knows the fear is out of proportion to the actual danger, it is difficult to control. Avoiding the feared stimulus leads to increasing limitations in daily life.
Exposure therapy is the most effective treatment. By gradually being exposed to the feared stimulus, a person experiences a reduction in fear. Mindy can help guide you through this process.
💡 Real-Life Example
An intense fear of specific things such as heights, spiders, injections, or airplanes.
