Details

What is a Process Group?

A Process Group is a form of group therapy that focuses on real-time interactions, emotions, and relational dynamics occurring among members. It has been greatly influenced by Irvin Yalom's theory of group therapy.

What is 'Process'?

In a process group, 'process' refers not to the content of conversation, but to the how — the way in which that conversation unfolds. The focus is less on 'what is being said' and more on 'how it is being said, and what impact members have on one another.'

Therapeutic Factors

A process group activates a variety of therapeutic factors, including interpersonal learning, universality ('I'm not the only one who feels this way'), altruism, and catharsis. By giving and receiving feedback from other members, you can recognize and change relationship patterns that repeat in everyday life — all within a safe environment.

Mindy's Warm Guidance

Mindy describes the process group as an experience of understanding yourself more deeply through the mirror of relationships. In the course of honest exchange with others, you can discover patterns you never knew you had and learn new ways of connecting. When you find the courage to open yourself up, remarkable growth can happen.

💡 Real-Life Example

During a group session, I realized that the irritation I felt toward one member was actually the same pattern I have in my relationship with my mother.
