Mentoring
Mentoring
Mentoring is a relationship where an experienced person (mentor) helps a less experienced person (mentee) grow and develop.
Details
Mentoring is a relationship in which an experienced person supports the professional and personal growth of someone with less experience. It provides career functions (advice, networking, creating opportunities) and psychosocial functions (emotional support, role modeling, affirmation). It can be formal (organizational programs) or informal (naturally occurring). Not only the mentee but also the mentor can gain new perspectives and a sense of fulfillment. Finding a good mentor is important, but becoming a mentor to someone else is also a valuable experience.
Mindy says: You might be surprised how much you already have to offer someone else — being a mentor can be just as transformative as having one.
💡 Real-Life Example
When a senior employee shares not only work know-how but also wisdom about navigating organizational life with a new hire, that is mentoring.
