Intimacy vs. Isolation is the challenge of Stage 6 (early adulthood) in Erikson's theory of development.
After a sense of personal identity has been established, the task becomes forming deep, intimate relationships with others. If this need goes unmet, a person may experience feelings of isolation and loneliness.
