What is Feedback-Informed Treatment?

Feedback-Informed Treatment (FIT) is an approach developed by Scott Miller and Barry Duncan that systematically collects client feedback on treatment progress and the therapeutic relationship at every session to optimize care.

Core Tools

  • ORS (Outcome Rating Scale): Measures the client's overall well-being at the start of each session
  • SRS (Session Rating Scale): Evaluates the therapeutic relationship and session satisfaction at the end of each session
  • Why Does Feedback Matter?

Research shows that therapists often fail to notice client dissatisfaction or deterioration. Using a systematic feedback system allows early detection of cases where therapy is not working, enabling immediate adjustments to the approach. This helps reduce early dropout and improve treatment outcomes.

    💡 Real-Life Example

At the start and end of each counseling session, the client completed a brief questionnaire, allowing the counselor to track the client's progress and quickly correct areas that were not proving effective.
