Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

A psychotherapy technique that uses eye movements to reprocess traumatic memories.

Details

EMDR is a trauma treatment developed by Francine Shapiro that uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, sounds) to reprocess traumatic memories. It is an evidence-based treatment recommended by the WHO for PTSD.

EMDR is designed to allow traumatic memories to be processed directly without causing excessive distress. It follows a systematic 8-phase protocol and has been proven effective in numerous studies.

If you are struggling with trauma, consider speaking with Mindy, an EMDR-trained therapist, to explore whether this approach might help you.

💡 Real-Life Example

While visually following a therapist's moving fingers, you recall a traumatic memory and gradually find that the memory becomes less painful — that is how EMDR works.
