The circumplex model of affect explains emotions by placing them on two broad dimensions: how pleasant or unpleasant they feel, and how activated or calm they are. For example, excitement is pleasant and high-energy, while sadness is unpleasant and low-energy. This model helps people describe feelings more precisely instead of saying only “good” or “bad.”
