Details
What Is Adjustment Disorder?
Adjustment Disorder occurs when stressors like changing jobs, divorce, or illness trigger emotional responses that are stronger than expected.
Not Quite Major Depression or Anxiety
Symptoms like sadness, anxiety, and behavioral changes may appear, but they don't meet the criteria for major depressive disorder or generalized anxiety disorder. Once the stressor resolves, symptoms usually improve within 6 months.
It's Still Real and Valid
Even if it's temporary, the struggle is real. Counseling can help build resilience and speed up recovery.
Mindy's Note: Going through a big life change and feeling overwhelmed? That's completely understandable. With the right support, you can navigate through this and come out stronger.
💡 Real-Life Example
Feeling excessively distressed after a job change, breakup, or move — that can be an Adjustment Disorder.
