What is Dream Analysis?
Dream analysis is a method of systematically interpreting the content, symbols, and emotions of dreams to understand the dreamer's unconscious psychological state. It is used as an important tool in psychotherapy.
Major Approaches
Freudian Approach: Dreams are the disguised fulfillment of repressed desires. It distinguishes between manifest content (what is remembered) and latent content (the hidden meaning), and reveals the latent content through symbolic interpretation.
Jungian Approach: Dreams serve a compensatory function of the unconscious. They balance the imbalances of conscious attitudes and convey messages of self-realization through archetypal symbols.
Gestalt Approach: Every element of a dream is seen as representing a part of oneself. It uses role-play techniques where the dreamer becomes the characters or objects in the dream.
Common Dream Themes
Falling, being chased, flying, losing teeth, being naked, and taking exams are universally occurring dream themes across cultures. Each can be associated with loss of control, avoidance, desire for freedom, and more.
Modern Perspectives
Modern neuroscience views dreams as contributing to memory consolidation, emotional processing, and problem-solving. While dream analysis is difficult to verify scientifically, it remains valuable as a tool for self-exploration.

💡 Real-Life Example
Repeatedly dreaming about being late for an exam is interpreted as reflecting anxiety in real life or fear of being unprepared.
