Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP)

Transference-Focused Psychotherapy

A therapy that treats personality disorders by analyzing transference — the repetition of past relationship patterns — as it appears within the therapeutic relationship.

Details

Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) is a psychodynamic treatment developed by Otto Kernberg that places the transference within the therapeutic relationship at its core.

It was developed especially for the treatment of borderline personality disorder. When patterns such as splitting, idealization, or devaluation emerge in the relationship with the therapist, these are interpreted and integration is supported.

It is a structured therapy conducted through regular sessions approximately twice a week. If you'd like to explore how this approach might apply to you, Mindy is here to help.
