Slow-Wave Sleep

Slow-Wave Sleep

The deepest stage of sleep, during which the body repairs itself and strengthens immune function.

Details

Slow-wave sleep (Stage N3) is the deepest stage of sleep, characterized by dominant slow delta waves. It is a critical time for physical recovery, tissue repair, immune function enhancement, and growth hormone secretion.

As we age, the amount of slow-wave sleep tends to decrease. Regular exercise (completed at least 4 hours before bedtime) can help increase slow-wave sleep.

Getting enough slow-wave sleep is essential for physical and mental vitality the next day. Mindy is here to support you in building habits that protect your deep sleep.

💡 Real-Life Example

During this stage, it is very difficult to wake someone up, and if awakened, they often feel groggy and disoriented. Growth hormone is released in children during this time.
