Shame

Shame

Shame is the feeling of 'I myself am the problem.' Unlike guilt, shame leads you to reject your entire sense of self.

Details

Shame is a painful feeling that 'I as a person' am fundamentally flawed — not just 'something I did.'

Guilt says 'I did something bad,' but shame says 'I am bad.' Shame creates a desperate urge to hide, to disappear, to become invisible.

As Dr. Brené Brown has said, shame grows in secrecy and silence. When you share it with someone safe, shame begins to lose its power. — Mindy

💡 Real-Life Example

'After making a mistake, feeling like I am completely worthless as a person' — that is shame.
