Parenting Style

Parenting Style

Parenting style refers to the pattern of how parents raise their children, categorized by levels of warmth and control.

Details

Parenting style is a concept proposed by Diana Baumrind, classified along two dimensions: responsiveness (warmth) and demandingness (control).

The four types are: Authoritative (high warmth + appropriate control), Authoritarian (low warmth + high control), Permissive (high warmth + low control), and Neglectful (low warmth + low control).

In general, authoritative parenting is considered the most beneficial for a child's development.

Few parents fit neatly into just one style — parenting can shift depending on the situation. What matters most is finding the right balance between love for the child and setting appropriate boundaries.

💡 Real-Life Example

Some parents set clear rules while still respecting their child's opinions; others allow their child to do almost anything freely. Parenting styles vary widely from family to family.
