Out-group Homogeneity
Out-group Homogeneity
Out-group homogeneity is the tendency to perceive members of other groups as all being similar to one another. It's the 'they're all the same' way of thinking.
Details
Out-group homogeneity refers to the tendency to see members of groups you don't belong to as 'all pretty much alike.' In contrast, we tend to view members of our own group as diverse and unique individuals.
This happens because we have less contact with out-group members, which means fewer opportunities to experience their individual differences firsthand. These perceptions can form the foundation for stereotypes and prejudice.
The best way to reduce this bias is to directly meet and interact with people from a variety of different backgrounds. - Mindy

You might think 'everyone in that department is basically the same,' when in reality each person has their own distinct personality and way of thinking.
