Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder

Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder

A personality pattern marked by excessive preoccupation with perfectionism, order, and control. It is different from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Details

Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) is characterized by an excessive preoccupation with order, perfectionism, and control.

Despite the similar name, OCPD and OCD are different conditions. With OCPD, a person tends to feel their patterns are 'right' and justified, whereas with OCD, obsessive thoughts feel distressing and unwanted.

Practicing flexibility and learning to accept that 'it's okay not to be perfect' can be very helpful. Mindy can work with you on building these skills at your own pace.

💡 Real-Life Example

'Everything must be perfect, and rules or procedures must be followed with extreme rigidity' — for instance, spending hours redoing a task because one small detail wasn't exactly right, or refusing to delegate work out of fear others won't do it correctly.
