Nightmares

Nightmares

Vivid and distressing dreams that occur during sleep, often experienced frequently after trauma.

Details

Nightmares are a common symptom following trauma and are included in the diagnostic criteria for PTSD. The content of the trauma may be directly replayed, or threatening and terrifying dreams may recur repeatedly. They significantly reduce sleep quality and can create a fear of falling asleep altogether. Image Rehearsal Therapy (practicing changing the dream's content while awake) has been shown to be effective. If nightmares are recurring, speaking with Mindy can help improve both sleep and overall recovery.

💡 Real-Life Example

The traumatic event replays in dreams, or appears in a distorted form, causing the person to wake up suddenly.
