Language Development

Language development is the process by which children learn to speak and develop the ability to communicate with others.

Details

Language development refers to the process through which children acquire communication skills.

Starting with babbling in the first few months of life, children typically say their first words around age 1, combine two words around age 2, and experience an explosion of language growth between ages 3 and 5.

Talking with your child frequently and reading books together greatly supports language development. Responding to your child's words and expanding on what they say is especially important. — Mindy

💡 Real-Life Example

The developmental progression goes: 'Babbling → First words → Two-word combinations → Full sentences.'
