Three Types
Health Locus of Control is divided into three main types. Internal Locus of Control is the belief that 'my health depends on my own efforts.' Powerful Others Locus of Control is the belief that 'doctors or people around me determine my health.' Chance Locus of Control is the belief that 'health is a matter of luck or fate.'
Relationship with Health Behaviors
People with a higher internal health locus of control tend to practice more proactive health behaviors such as regular check-ups, exercise, and a balanced diet. In contrast, those with a higher chance locus of control may be more passive about managing their health.
