Fixed Mindset

Fixed Mindset

A fixed mindset is the belief that abilities are innate and cannot be changed. It's the thinking of 'This is just who I am.'

Details

A fixed mindset is the belief that intelligence, talent, and ability are inborn traits that don't change much over time.

When you hold this belief, you tend to see failure as proof of your 'limitations' and avoid challenges — thinking, 'If I fail, it will show everyone that I'm not capable.'

However, the brain can change and grow throughout your entire life (neuroplasticity). Recognizing when you're in a fixed mindset is the very first step toward shifting into a growth mindset.
