Cultural Humility

Cultural Humility

An ongoing commitment to staying open and curious about other people's cultural experiences, rather than assuming you already understand them.

Details

Cultural humility means recognizing that your own cultural perspective has limits, and choosing to keep learning from others with genuine openness. Unlike simply acquiring cultural knowledge, it's really about the attitude you bring and the ongoing process of self-reflection. It involves noticing power imbalances, questioning your own assumptions, and treating each person as the true expert on their own lived experience. It's not something you master once and move on from — it's a lifelong practice of growth and connection.

💡 Real-Life Example

During a conversation, someone pauses and says, I'm not familiar with how this might feel from your cultural background — would you be willing to share what this experience is like for you? That kind of openness is cultural humility in action.
