Crisis

Crisis

A crisis is a moment of intense emotional overwhelm when your usual ways of coping just aren't enough to get you through.

Details

In psychology, a crisis refers to a state of psychological imbalance that happens when a situation feels too big for your current coping resources to handle. It can be triggered by unexpected events like job loss or a breakup, major life transitions, or deep questions about meaning and identity. While a crisis is genuinely hard, it also carries the possibility of growth — with the right support, many people come out the other side with new strength and perspective. One encouraging thing about crises is that people tend to be more open to help during these moments than at any other time.

💡 Real-Life Example

After suddenly losing his job, a man felt overwhelmed by anxiety and helplessness, but through crisis counseling he was able to steady himself and start mapping out a new path forward.
