Mental Health Challenges
compulsion
Compulsion
A repeated action or mental ritual done to reduce anxiety, even when it does not truly solve the problem.
Details
A compulsion is a repeated behavior or mental act that a person feels driven to do, often to calm anxiety caused by an obsession. Examples can include checking, washing, counting, repeating phrases, or mentally reviewing things again and again. It may bring short relief, but that relief usually does not last. Over time, the urge often grows stronger, and the cycle can become exhausting.
💡 Real-Life Example
Someone checks the front door over and over because even after locking it, the fear that something bad will happen still does not go away.
