complicated grief

Complicated Grief

A prolonged, intense grief that does not ease over time and makes daily life feel very hard.

Details

Complicated grief refers to grief that stays overwhelmingly intense for a long time after a loss and keeps a person feeling stuck. The pain, longing, disbelief, or emptiness may remain so strong that everyday life becomes difficult to manage. This is not about “grieving wrong” or loving too much. It means the loss is still affecting the mind and body in a deep, ongoing way, and support may be needed.

💡 Real-Life Example

A year after losing a partner, someone still feels consumed by longing every day, cannot return to regular life, and feels guilty for doing anything that brings even a little relief.
