Combat Stress

The intense mental and physical stress that can happen during or after exposure to combat.

Details

Combat stress refers to the emotional and physical strain that can build up during war, combat operations, or other life-threatening military situations. It can show up as hypervigilance, nightmares, irritability, emotional numbness, guilt, or difficulty returning to ordinary life. These reactions do not mean someone is weak. They are human responses to extreme danger, and support can make a real difference.

💡 Real-Life Example

After returning from combat, a veteran may stay on edge, startle easily at loud sounds, and struggle to sleep because their body still feels unsafe.
