Collective Trauma

A shared wound that forms when a community goes through a devastating event together.

Details

Collective trauma happens when a war, disaster, pandemic, large-scale violence, or other painful event affects not just one person but an entire group or community. The impact can show up as fear, grief, mistrust, numbness, or a lasting feeling that life no longer feels as safe as before. Because the experience is shared, healing often also needs shared spaces for mourning, remembering, and rebuilding trust.

💡 Real-Life Example

After a major disaster, many people in the same community may struggle with sleep, anxiety, grief, and a sense that everything changed.
