classical conditioning
Classical Conditioning
Learning through association, when one thing starts triggering a response because it has been linked with something else.
Details
Classical conditioning happens when a neutral cue becomes connected to a response after repeated pairing with something meaningful. It explains why a smell can suddenly bring back fear, why a place can feel comforting, or why the body reacts before the mind has time to think. The famous example is Pavlov’s dogs, but the same pattern shows up in everyday emotions too.
💡 Real-Life Example
Someone starts feeling tense every time they enter a hospital because hospitals became linked with past fear and pain.
