Understanding the Mind
chunking
Chunking
A memory strategy that groups small pieces of information into meaningful chunks.
Details
Chunking is a way of remembering more by grouping separate bits of information into meaningful units. A phone number becomes easier to remember when it is broken into parts, and study material becomes easier when related ideas are grouped together. It works because the brain handles organized patterns better than scattered details.
💡 Real-Life Example
Instead of memorizing 1 9 4 5 2 0 2 6 separately, someone remembers them as 1945 and 2026.
