case conceptualization
Case Conceptualization
A therapist’s working understanding of how a person’s symptoms, history, personality, and environment connect.
Details
Case conceptualization is the process of making sense of a person’s difficulties by looking at the whole picture. It brings together symptoms, past experiences, personality, relationships, stress, and strengths to answer: Why is this happening for this person right now? It helps guide treatment and gives therapy a clearer direction. A good case conceptualization can change over time as the therapist and client learn more.
💡 Real-Life Example
A therapist notices that a client’s panic symptoms become worse during conflict because of earlier experiences of feeling unsafe and unheard.
