Brainstem
Brainstem
The part of the brain that keeps basic life functions going.
Details
The brainstem helps regulate breathing, heartbeat, sleep, alertness, and other automatic functions that keep us alive. Because it is tied so closely to survival, it also matters in trauma and stress responses.
💡 Real-Life Example
Even while you are asleep, your brainstem keeps your breathing and heartbeat going without you having to think about it.
