Body psychotherapy
Body Psychotherapy
A therapy approach that works with both the mind and the body, not just thoughts or words.
Details
Body psychotherapy is a form of therapy that pays attention to what is happening in the body as well as in emotions and thoughts. It is based on the idea that stress, trauma, and emotional pain can show up through tension, posture, breathing, movement, or physical sensations.
In this kind of therapy, the body is not treated as separate from the mind. A person may be invited to notice breath, tightness, grounding, movement, or bodily reactions in a safe and guided way.
This can be especially helpful for people whose experiences feel hard to explain in words. Sometimes the body notices something before the mind can fully name it.
💡 Real-Life Example
A person who feels constant tension after trauma begins to notice their breathing and body signals in therapy, and slowly feels safer in their own body again.
