Body dysmorphic disorder
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
A condition where someone becomes intensely preoccupied with a flaw in their appearance that feels much bigger than others see it.
Details
Body dysmorphic disorder, or BDD, is more than simply feeling insecure about appearance. It involves constant distress about a part of the body that seems defective, ugly, or unbearable, even when others barely notice it or do not see it at all. People may spend hours checking mirrors, hiding the area, seeking reassurance, or avoiding others. The suffering is real, and it is not vanity. With proper treatment and support, people can get relief.
💡 Real-Life Example
Someone spends a long time each day checking their nose in the mirror, feels ashamed to go outside, and believes everyone is staring at the flaw.
