Binge eating disorder
Binge Eating Disorder
An eating disorder where someone has repeated episodes of eating a large amount of food and feels unable to stop.
Details
Binge eating disorder means going through repeated episodes of eating much more than intended, often quickly and with a strong sense of losing control. Unlike bulimia, it usually does not involve purging afterward. Many people feel shame, guilt, or the urge to hide their eating, but this is not a lack of willpower. Stress, loneliness, strict dieting, and painful emotions can all make it worse, and recovery often begins with self-compassion and support.
💡 Real-Life Example
Someone eats a large amount of food alone late at night, feels unable to stop, and later feels deep guilt and embarrassment.
