Beginner's mind

Beginner's Mind

A mindset of meeting things with openness, curiosity, and less assumption.

Details

Beginner's mind means trying to see a person, moment, or experience without acting like you already know everything about it. It is a mindset of openness, curiosity, and willingness to notice something new.

When we assume we already know, we often stop paying attention. Beginner's mind makes space for fresh perspective. It is often discussed in mindfulness because it helps people return to the present instead of living only through old judgments and habits.

It does not mean pretending to be inexperienced. It means staying open enough to keep learning, even from familiar things.

💡 Real-Life Example

Someone listens to a close friend describe a problem as if hearing it for the first time, instead of assuming they already know what the friend means.
