Acute Stress

Acute stress is a short-duration stress experienced in response to a specific event or situation. Physically, it manifests as increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and adrenaline release. In most cases, the body quickly returns to its normal state once the threat has passed.

Moderate acute stress can actually enhance performance and promote problem-solving. However, extremely intense acute stress can lead to acute stress disorder, so awareness is important.

The startle when a car suddenly cuts in front of you, or the tension right before an important exam, are examples of acute stress.
